A little background on the show:

For her last exhibition, KYOTARO created “Gods” with absolute presence,
standing amidst a dignified silence in a monotone world drawn using only
pencils.
This exhibition on the other hand is about fairies, which she has been
drawing since 2004. The exhibition features around the series “I SAW A LOT
OF FAIRIES 2004-2019” in which KYOTARO uses colors she doesn’t normally use.
She has created the birth, the re-birth and the life of the fairies with
expressions full of life. Viewers are lead to an illusion that they
themselves are visiting the fairy land when seeing the happiness and the
sorrows in the expressions of the lively fairies.

The fairies are very colorful, drawn using soft and delicate color pencils,
watercolor and acrylic paint. The viewers will feel the passion of KYOTARO
through the soft lines and faintly stained colors, unusual for the artist.
Heavenly residents as Silurian God and Pleiades’s Princesses drawn on a great
big canvas “gazing” down at these fairies will be exhibited as well.

KYOTARO who chose invisible subjects as “Gods” in 2008 and “Fairies” for
2010 says,

“God and Fairies are on completely different dimensions but exist in the
same place at the same time. I can’t help but feel that this world exists
together with many different dimensions. We humans are not the only one’s
here. I had to complete these works because I wanted many people to remember
that everything is connected, that this planet is awesome and for all of us
to not forget that. I also hope that we people will be able to recognize the
fact that we enter a new future every second. “

In contrast to the mighty presence of the Gods, the Fairies live a lively
life full of expressions. This 24 piece series is constructed so that the
last piece goes back to the same scene in the first piece. Instead of going
back to the exact same place though, the time is forwarded just a little, in
line with the progression of the story. Like drawing a spiral. The Fairies
go beyond their flesh and evolve into a new dimension, are purified and
connected to the heavenly world. If you could continue on the story from
there, how wonderful that would be…

The size and scope of KYOTARO’s drawings is literally stunning.
Her lovingly detailed creatures leap out of the frame and conjure up a sensation of other-worldliness.
Her animations take you deeper into her beautiful abstraction of kawaii culture.
