To Japan: From LA with Love

This Saturday April 16th, Space 15Twenty will be graciously hosting a three week long fundraising event for Japan.
Organized with love by Niki Livingston, Sunshine Fox and Tania Enriquez the soft opening will feature a newly remastered Akira Kurasawa’s Rashomon
to be shown at 8:00pm in the courtyard and the opening of the Pop Up Shop.
(We’re big Kurasawa nerds, so we are super hyped on this)

The following Saturday April 23rd is the opening night benefit party with a silent art auction curated by our Creative Director Niki Livingston.
With over 60 artists donating work (& loads of 2K artists, included a hand lettered piece made specifically for the show from Ed Fella !!),
there is sure to be an amazing collection of art to chose from.

Hit+Run will be on hand making totes from a selection of custom work for the show and
My Hollow Drum, Holly D. Drummond and SUPERDELUX are bringing the music.

Come by, hang out and support the effort to raise some money for the rebuilding of Northern Japan.

Cries & Whispers

Posted on 05. Apr, 2011 by niki in Artists, Misato Suzuki, Shows

Misato Suzuki will be in a group show at Sam Lee Gallery opening on April 23rd 6-9pm
990 N Hill St #190
Los Angeles, Ca 90012

Sam Lee Gallery and co-curator Paul W. Evans are pleased to present Cries & Whispers, a group
exhibition of 15 diverse artists whose practice centers on abstraction. Included in the exhibition are Jakob
Christmas, William Conger, Jeff Gambill, Glenn Goldberg, Joanne Greenbaum, Hadley Holliday, Andy Kolar,
Andrew Masullo, Douglas Melini, Robin Mitchell, John Pearson, Carl Smith, Andrew Spence, Misato Suzuki,
and Laura Sharp Wilson. The gallery will host a reception for the artists on Saturday, April 23, from 6 to 9 pm.
What makes painting a cry and what makes painting a whisper? Or could a painting be both? Cries and
Whispers—not a survey show by any means—probes these questions and looks at abstraction from a multi-faceted
perspective, exploring the different ways in which visual devices are employed. The utilization of line, color, content
and form is paramount. Each artist brings his or her own signature method to this genre through various strategies
and ideas. Such notions intersect throughout the show, creating an engaging dialogue among the pieces. These
works honor the solitary journey of art-making and the longing for communication.

Misato Suzuki: Inside-Out

Posted on 23. Mar, 2011 by niki in Artists, Misato Suzuki, Shows

MSuzuki0311a

Inside-out is a group exhibition featuring Southern California artists whose practices blur the line between interior and exterior orientation.

The paintings on paper and canvas by Chet Glaze and Misato Suzuki use popular imagery as a vehicle to merge personal intimacies with external stimuli. In Suzuki’s paintings, flocks of pigeons wander through abstract spaces like pedestrians in urban centers. Environmental forces of confetti-like patterns and translucent color fields direct the flow of these fowl and replace individuality with nomadic unity. Glaze uses imagery from television stills, which seem to fill gaps in experiences and memories. With a focus on the passing of time, the spaces in his paintings present unfolding circumstances and embrace moments of suspended disbelief.

Misato Suzuki’s Glimmer

Posted on 23. Mar, 2010 by niki in Artists, Misato Suzuki, Shows

West Hollywood, CA—Sam Lee Gallery in the Blue Building at Pacific Design Center is pleased to present a solo exhibition entitled glimmer by Los Angeles-based artist Misato Suzuki. The show opens March 25 and closes May 13, 2010. The gallery will host an opening reception for the artist on Thursday, May 25, from 5-8 p….m.

With glimmer, Misato Suzuki honed her personal surroundings, experiences and memories and transformed them into 7 striking yet subtle acrylic on canvases. Although each painting’s source initially stems from the private, the ensuing narratives in her work are open-ended. Suzuki’s work, often inspired by a snapshot of or an occurrence from life, explores and questions randomness, perception and reality.
